Custom home office cabinetry

An office has to hold more than a desk: files, printers, books, a safe, and the things you'd rather not see on a video call. JB Custom Design builds offices as full walls of cabinetry that store all of it and still feel open.

Recent offices include a grey and cherry room with the safe hidden behind pocket doors, a Henderson office with arched lit cabinets and a bank of file drawers, a clear maple office with a slat wall, and a study tucked under a staircase.

What's included

  • Desks and work surfaces

Built-in desks sized for how you work, with tops in wood, quartz or stone.

  • Storage to the ceiling

Upper cabinets, glass display cabinets and file drawers. Sometimes a standard closet comes out to make room.

  • Hidden storage

Pocket doors over a safe and drawers, printer pull-outs and cable management.

  • Light and finish

LED uplighting, lit glass cabinets, wallpaper and wall finishes chosen with the cabinetry.

How it works

  1. A 90-minute in-home meeting about style, budget and time frame.
  2. Creative visuals, materials and colours chosen together, timeline and budget set.
  3. A clear, itemized scope with material and labor broken out.
  4. The build, with trades and vendors properly vetted and clear communication throughout.

Home offices: questions homeowners ask

Can a wall of cabinets make an office feel bigger?

It can. In a smaller Henderson office, a full wall of cabinetry with lit arched display cabinets and a clear maple top made the room look larger, because the clutter went behind doors and the light carries across the wall.

Can you hide a safe in office cabinetry?

Yes. In one office the safe and a set of inset drawers sit behind pocket doors, so they're out of sight until needed.

Can you build an office in an unused space?

Yes. One study is built under a staircase, with a desk, a built-in bookcase and shiplap wainscot. Closets and awkward ledges can also become office storage.

Do you design the rest of the room too?

Yes. Judy is an interior designer as well as a cabinet maker, so wallpaper, paint, lighting and furniture can be planned with the cabinetry.
